Jewell Mangum

Jewell Faye Mangum, 85, passed away at a local care center on December 26, 2012. A visitation will be held at the Piersall Funeral home on Friday, December 28th from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. A service will be held at the Piersall Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, December 29th at 11:00 am with a burial to follow at the Carbon Cemetery.

Jewell was born in Abilene in 1927, to Munroe and Jewell Roberts. She was a housekeeper in the motel industry and worked for many years in various Abilene motels. She was married to Maurice Mangum.


Preceding her in death were her husband, Maurice, her parents, a son Allen Lang, a brother Clifford Roberts and a great grandson, Gary Gator Green Jr.


She is survived by a son Bobby Lang of Odessa, Texas, a daughter, Diana Pangburn, of Abilene, a daughter, Mary Childers of Hobbs, New Mexico, a son Dale Lang of Abilene, a son Freddie Lang, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, brothers; J.O. Roberts and Wayne Roberts both of Abilene, sisters; Bertha Reynolds, Jeanie Ramirez, Louise Ison all of Abilene, Carolyn Roberts of Anson and Jewell Gray of Hermleigh. In addition, she is survived by 24 grandchildren,32 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren, 3 soon to be born great great grandchildren, and a special niece, Rhonda Salazar, who was not just her caregiver but also her constant companion. Jewell will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
