Ruth Gray

Ruth Gray, 86 of Abilene, passed away December 4, 2012 in Childress, Texas. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 am Tuesday December 11, 2012 at the Piersall Benton Chapel, 733 Butternut St., with a time of visitation to follow. A private family graveside will be held at Elmwood Memorial Park prior to the memorial service.

Ruth Ada Foree Gray was born September 8, 1926 to Walter Foree and Lillie Mae Rice Foree in Des Moines, New Mexico. On December 7, 1947 she married L.E. Gray, Jr. in Raton, New Mexico and in 1949 they moved to Abilene, Texas. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Abilene Christian College in 1964.

Ruth was a teacher in the Abilene ISD for 24 years. She was an active member of Zeta Psi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Abilene Retired Teachers Association and Women for ACU. As a member of University Church of Christ, Ruth participated in many church ministries where she used her talents as a teacher such as the after school reading program. She also helped with Wednesday night suppers and participated in the quilting group.

Surviving Ruth is a son Leffel Gray and his wife Laurie of Abilene; two daughters, Leslie Currey and husband Billie and Patricia Ann Gray, nine grandchildren; Brady Currey and wife Linsey, Allie Moore and husband Chad, Dr. Dustin Pratt and wife Eileen, Lauren Bratten and husband David, Meredith Churchill and husband Chase, Landon Gray, Brianna Sales and husband Chad, Grant McMillan and wife Linda and Tabor McMillan, as well as ten great grandchildren and host of extended family members and friends. Preceding Ruth in death were her parents, her husband, and two sisters Lois Grove and Rachel Buhr.
