Tom Dendy of Abilene died Thursday, January 24, 2008 in a local hospital. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 26, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Black officiating.
Tom was born on February 11, 1923, in DeLeon, Texas to John W. and Dora Thomas Dendy. He graduated from DeLeon High School and enlisted in the Navy, proudly serving his country during World War II in the Marshall Islands in the South Pacific. On January 17, 1948, Tom married Wanda Miller in the First Methodist Church in Eastland, Texas. The couple moved to Abilene, and he began a career in banking that spanned almost 45 yrs., the first 40 with Citizens National Bank as Assistant Vice President and then with First National Bank. He was also a graduate of the American Institute of Banking. Tom never met a stranger and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Wanda, of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law of Abilene, Denise and Van Jones, Dianne and Bill Davis, and D’Lynn and Tim Collard; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Jones of Grapevine, Jonathan Jones of Abilene, Julianne Jones King and husband Jeremy of Dallas, D’Anna Davis of Fort Worth, DeLorean Davis, Christopher Collard and Kelsey Collard of Abilene, and one sister, Lela Howell of Abilene.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 202 Butternut, Abilene, Texas 79602 or the American Heart Association, 149 N.
