Wanda Lane Heatherly, 69, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at an Abilene Medical Center. Funeral Services will be Saturday, January 5th, 2008 at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church of Abilene with Pastor David Black officiating. A visitation is scheduled for Friday, January 4th from 6-8 pm at Piersall Benton Funeral Home, 733 Butternut St.
Wanda was born on Christmas Day 1938 in Cross Plains, Texas to Sam and Reba Lane. She was raised in Cross Plains and after a few years away, she found herself in Abilene, where she has been for the last 35 years. After spending 17 years raising her family, Wanda became a Realtor in Abilene. She then went to college and graduated from Wayland Baptist University with a Bachelor of Science in Business. She used her education helping people as a Social Worker for the Texas Department of Human Services until her retirement in 1987.
Wanda’s life was filled with time enjoying her grandchildren and being the perfect “Nana”. She was a dedicated wife and mother. She loved to sew and quilt and spend time tending to her plants. Wanda was also an active member of First United Methodist Church. She was a member of Xi Omicron Zeta.
Wanda was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her husband, Bill Heatherly, daughter and son in law Debbie and Steve Smith, son and daughter in law, Rick and Kristy Waldraff, mother Reba Lane, sisters Virginia Childers and husband Aubrey and Peggie and husband Lou Pecchioni as well as her pride and joy, grandchildren Bryan and Greg Smith and Brad and Matthew Waldraff all of Abilene.
