Sadako Hatcher

July 27, 1930 — December 26, 2007

Sadako Hatcher, 77, died at an Abilene Hospital Wednesday December 26th, 2007. Funeral services will be held at the Piersall Benton Funeral Directors Chapel, 733 Butternut St, at 10:00 am Saturday, December 29th with Rob Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow at the Midway Cemetery in Hodges. Visitation is scheduled for 6-8 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Sadako was born on July 27, 1930 in Naygoya, Japan. She married Joe Thomas Hatcher in Tokyo, Japan on September 14th, 1961. They lived in Hodges, Texas, for over 35 years building a home, raising a family and operating a small farm. “Sally” enjoyed working with her husband in the garden and going to the farmers market in Abilene, to sell the produce they had grown. She was also active at the Rose Park Senior Center attending exercise classes with her friends.

'Sally' as people in the community knew her, was a friend to many, she loved to cook and was generous in helping others. She was also proud of her American citizenship and the life this country had given her.

A loving wife and mother Sadako is survived by her husband; Joe Thomas Hatcher, son; Joseph M. Hatcher. A brother, ToTu Yamashita as well as many extended family members and a host of friends. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Sadako was preceded in death by her parents Shingo and Fumiko Yamashita and one brother Hakoia Yamashita.
