Virginia L. Riggs

February 8, 1926 — October 16, 2012

After living an abundant life in Christ, Ginny Riggs was called home October 16, 2012. Ginny was born February 8, 1926 in Centertown, KY, the youngest of four children to Fred and Margaret Walker of Monroe, LA. A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday October 20, 2012 at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St. A time of visitation with the family will be held from 10:00-11:00 am prior to the service, at the funeral home. There will be a private family burial following the service.

Ginny graduated from high school in Louisiana, and attended Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, LA where she met her husband, Stan Riggs, of San Jose, CA., a sweetheart in every way for 64 years. A Navy wife for 30 years, Ginny called many interesting places home including Japan, Colombia, Washington DC, and various locations in California. She was mother and mentor to three children, Susan, Ed, and Peggy. She taught 1st and 2nd grade and Ladies’ Bible class, was a talented painter, a seamstress, an avid reader, a gardener, and a serious Bible student. Without fail, she worked her crossword puzzle every day. After attending a Creative Memories workshop, she enjoyed being the family historian through scrapbooking for
eight grandchildren. She was a gracious hostess, opening her home for dinners, youth fellowships and celebrations of all kinds. She cherished her family and friends, and showed her love for Christ by how she treated everyone around her.

Stan and Ginny moved to Abilene, TX, on their 50th wedding anniversary June 16, 1995, to be close to their daughters and grandchildren and became active members of Highland Church of Christ. Ginny befriended people easily and kept in touch with many of them through the years.
She will be sorely missed.

She is survived by Sue Garcia of Abilene and children Stephen and Allison Garcia of SF, CA, Matthew Garcia, Becca and Chris Kosho of Austin, TX; Cath Riggs from Redding, CA and children, Zac and Jennifer Riggs, with great grandsons Jackson, Hudson, and Finn of Keller, TX, Naomi and Dan Grider of Frisco, TX, Miriam and Adrian Blasingame of Hewitt, TX; Peggy and James Langford of Abilene and children Ben and Joy Langford, with great grandchildren Elijah and Emeline of Monterey, CA, and Andrew Langford of Chicago, IL; and her two older brothers, Fred and Jimmie Walker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stan Riggs, her son, Ed Riggs, her parents and her sister, Juanita Radcliff.
