David M. Fry, 82, of Abilene, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Hendrick Hospice Care. A service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday the 27th of September at the Highland Church of Christ with burial to follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. A visitation will be held Wednesday night from 5-7pm at Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.
David was born on August 8, 1930 to Lola and James Fry in Burnett, Texas. He married Jo Ann Howard in 1951 in Abilene, and the same year graduated with a BS in Business from Abilene Christian College. David also earned a degree at LSU School of Banking, and during his career was President of both Abilene National Bank and Bank of Commerce. After he left the banking industry he began working for Casa Bonita Incorporated, spending time in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Denver, Mexico City and Dallas. In 1985 he was named Vice President and Division Manager for the company. He culminated his restaurant years as President of Casa Bonita. He was an Advisor for COBA at ACU during the final 10 years of his working career. David was involved in a number of civic organizations, including the Rotary Club. He loved music and was a song leader at the churches he attended for 70+ years, and served as an elder for the Church of Christ for over 21 years.
David was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers: Harold, Randall, Neil, Robert and Danny Fry, and one sister June Fry Smith. He is survived by his wife Jodie Fry of Abilene, daughter Diana Morrell and husband David of Abilene, son Don and wife Gay of Oklahoma City, daughter Julie Dawson and husband Dean of Dallas, and daughter Amy Castro and husband Jaime of Boerne. David will be greatly missed by his family, including 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, as well as a host of friends.
