Jessie Janiece Bond Powell, 77, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2012. A visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, September 16th from 3-5 pm at the Piersall Funeral Home, 733 Butternut Street. A service will be held at 1:30 pm Monday, September 17th at the Piersall Chapel with burial to follow at 3:00 pm in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene.
Jessie was born a twin on November 22, 1934 to Charles Homer Bond and Fay Ray Bond in Abilene. Jessie grew up in Abilene and graduated from Abilene High School in 1952. She married the love of her life, Roy Powell, February 6, 1955. She was the consummate military wife, making their home all over the world while he served in the Army for over 20 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a servant’s heart, a quiet spirit, and her life was a reflection of Christ. Jessie loved to cook for a crowd and spend time with her family. After retirement, she and Roy worked together making ceramics and enjoyed showing and selling them at craft fairs.
Jessie was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Roy Powell, a son Timothy Powell and his wife Cecilia of Abilene, a daughter Mrs. Toby (Nancy) Tyler of Abilene, two sisters; twin Joyce Roberson of Tampa, Florida, and Elizabeth McDaniel & husband Jim of Clyde. In addition she is survived by five grandchildren; Lindsey Roberson, Luke & Heather Roberson, Lance & Shannon Roberson, Aaron Powell, and Anne Powell, as well as three great grandchildren; Mason Coe, and Paige & Brooklyn Roberson and many extended family members and close friends.
