Dale Lain

May 17, 1927 — October 30, 2007

Dale Lain, 80, passed away Tuesday October 30, 2007 at an Abilene Hospital. Funeral services will be held at the Piersall Benton Funeral Directors Chapel 733 Butternut St., at 1:30 pm Friday November 2, 2007, with Dr. Gil Lain officiating. Entombment will follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be Thursday 5-7 pm at the funeral home.

Dale was born to Jim Lain and Lela Morton Lain, on May 17, 1927. Dale was raised in Jones County and later attended North Texas State University. He joined the U.S. Navy and served his country in World War II. Dale was a farmer and rancher in Jones County for 54 years. He was a true cowboy, an avid outdoorsman, and hunter. One of Dale’s passions was playing bridge. He was a member of the American Contract Bridge League, a Life Master and Silver Life Master who was in the top 15 % of bridge players in the U.S.

Dale is survived by his wife Judy Lavoie of Abilene, son Dr. Gil Lain and wife Mary of Amarillo, Tx, grandsons Caleb Lain of Marietta, Ga, Cody Lain and wife Elizabeth of Weatherford; granddaughter Krissie Lain of Ft. Worth; step-son Michael Lavoie and wife Brenda Helms and their children Lauren and Ethan of Oceanside, Ca; step-daughters Deena Cromley and husband Chris and their children Dylan and Cooper of Keller, Tx; Danielle Oatman and husband Michael and their children Sydnee and Jackson of Burleson, Tx; brother James Lain and wife Janis of Hamlin; and sister Ouita Buie and husband Roy of Ft. Worth.

Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Lavoie, Caleb Lain, Cody Lain, Ken Lain, Tim Bob Smith, Jeff Sage and honorary pallbearers will be Bill Lain, David Lain, Bobby Lain, Gary Lain, Donny Lain, Clint Lain, Travis Lain, James Lain, Murray Pirtle and Buddy Wise.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to all the doctors, nurses and staff at Hendrick Hospice. Donations may be made to Hendrick Hospice in lieu of flowers.
