Charles M Walsh

August 7, 1926 — October 25, 2007

Charles M. Walsh, 81, died at an Abilene Hospital Thursday October 25th, 2007. Funeral services will be held at the Piersall Benton Funeral Directors Chapel at 11:00 am Monday, October 29th with Doug Birky officiating. Burial will follow at the Bradshaw Cemetery with the Nephews serving as Pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3PM to 5PM at Piersall-Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.

Charles was born to Charles M. Walsh, Sr. and Mattie Pearl Spradlin in Merkel, Texas on August the 7th, 1926. Charles graduated from Stamford High School and was attending Texas Tech University when he was called to duty. He served his country in World War II and was stationed in the Philippines. He was a sergeant in the Army, assigned to the 743 Battery, Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion. Following his service in the military, Charles built power plants in the New England states and in South America. He later settled in the Abilene Area and established his own business, Walsh Welding. Charles later sold his shop in Abilene and went to work welding for Wes-Tex Drilling until he retired.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Joe W. and James M. Walsh. He is survived by his loving wife Clara of Abilene, two sons John Michael Walsh and David Wayne Walsh; 3 Step-sons, James Minatra and wife Diane, Gary Minatra and and wife Loli, and Eddie Minatra and wife Anissa; 3 grandchildren, Jeff, Bonner, and Corley Walsh; 6 Step-grandchildren, Lindsey, Candice, Landon, Blake, Morgan and Chase; one great-grandchild, Caleb, and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Andy White for being such a loyal friend. We would also like to thank the staff of Hendrick Medical Center, Hendrick Rehab Center, the staff of Home Instead Senior Care and family friend Sharon Armstrong.
