Donald D. Kinnard, 66 of Abilene, passed away at Hendrick Medical Center on Thursday August 16, 2012. A service is scheduled for 10:00 am Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St. with a burial to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6-8pm Monday evening at the funeral home.
Donald was born February 27, 1946 in New Bedford, Massachusetts to Newton and Louise Mae Kinnard. After high school Don enlisted in the Army where he served for three years during the Vietnam War. He had a short but distinguished career as a gunner on a helicopter. After returning home he met and married Wanda Blanton and together they had one daughter Katherine. Don could fix nearly anything mechanical. Most of his career was spent as a maintenance person and electrician. He loved to hunt and fish and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, but the most important thing to him was family.
Surviving Don are his daughter, Katherine Pearce of Abilene, a sister Shirley Gilmore of Clyde, and four grandchildren Alex, Aric, Jordan, and Jared Pearce as well as many extended family members and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Wanda, a brother Newton Kinnard, and a sister Gloria Carrigan.
