Anita Reeves Knowles

June 21, 1916 — October 20, 2007

Anita Dunn Reeves Knowles, 91, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2007 at the Windcrest Alzheimer’s Care Center in Abilene. Graveside services and burial will be at I.O.O.F. cemetery, Monday, October 22, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. in Georgetown, Texas. Arrangements are handled by Piersall-Benton Funeral Directors of Abilene.

Anita was born to Fred Dunn and Mae Waters Dunn in Fort Smith, Arkansas, on June 21, 1916. Her upbringing was primarily in Mansfield and Morrilton, Arkansas, where she graduated from Harding Academy in 1932. Following high school graduation, Anita attended Harding College on the original campus at Morrilton (located since the mid 1930’s at Searcy, Arkansas), where her parents were both employed. After the family moved to Conway, she attended Arkansas State Teachers College, where she was elected Homecoming Queen in 1934. That same year, she was married to Homer Putnam Reeves, Church of Christ minister, whom she had met two years earlier at Harding College. They were married for 54 years until Homer’s death in 1988. As a preacher’s wife, Anita was a diligent and steadfast partner in Homer’s ministry, which encompassed numerous churches of Christ, from New York City to Phoenix, Arizona, before finally retiring to Georgetown, Texas, in 1977. In 1994, at age 78, Anita married Mr. Cloyce Knowles of Georgetown. They enjoyed four years together until Cloyce’s death in 1998.

She was a dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker. Through the years, she occasionally worked part-time at various department stores. Anita was an accomplished musician and artist, with special interests in oil painting, water colors, and pencil or pen-and-ink drawings. She was also quite skilled at color tinting black and white photographs. Her greatest joys in life, however, were taking care of her family and church work. Since moving to Abilene in April of 2007, Anita has resided at the Windcrest Center.

Anita was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, brothers, Harrell Dunn of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Frank Dunn of San Antonio, daughters Judy Greening Ramming of Wichita Falls, Fran Frost of Georgetown, and grandson, Billy Greening of Wichita Falls. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Floyd Dunn of Abilene, sisters-in-law Pauline Dunn of Abilene, Yvonne Dunn of Temple, and Margaret Reeves of Huntsville, Alabama; son, Dr. H. Putnam Reeves, Jr. of Abilene, daughter-in-law Kay Reeves of Abilene; son-in-law Jack Frost of Temple; granddaughter Sheri Greening Johnson and husband Don of Wichita Falls, granddaughter Kayla Reeves Stringer and husband Lee of Abilene, granddaughter Dr. Sophia Frost of Temple, great-granddaughter Lili Lindemann of Temple, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Frances L. Frost Memorial Fund (cancer research), First Texas Bank, P.O. Box 649, Georgetown, TX 78627. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.pbfuneraldirectors.com.
