Robert Mounce Higgins

Robert Mounce Higgins, 87 of Abilene, passed away Tuesday June 26, 2012 at a local care center. A graveside service is scheduled for 9:00 am Thursday June 28, 2012 at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.

Bob Higgins was born May 9, 1925 at home in Dumont, Texas to Robert Ernest and Willie Marion Higgins. He grew up on the Swenson ranch. He graduated from Valley View Rural High School in Paducah, Texas.

He served in Army Air Force as a B-17 gunner and a navigator. He graduated from Abilene Christian College, worked for National Tank Manufacturing, preached in churches in Colorado and Wyoming, and worked for Arapahoe County in Colorado. He retired to Abilene.


He is survived by his wife, Wanda, of Abilene. He is also survived by, five children, Denease Higgins of Graham, TX; Lea Anne Harkleroad of Abilene, TX; Ed Higgins of Salmon, ID; Bill Higgins of Charleston, SC; and Nancy Hartline of Abilene, TX. He is survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, David Higgins of Abilene, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Willie, and his first wife, Velda; and a son, Middleton Montgomery.
