October 15, 1936 — May 4, 2012

Jackie Lee Hyer, 75 of Abilene, passed away Friday May 4th, 2012 at Hendrick Medical Center. A graveside service is scheduled for 10:00 am Monday May 7, 2012 at the Eula Cemetery under the direction of Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St. A visitation will be held Sunday from 3-5pm at the funeral home.

Jackie was born in Sweetwater, Texas on October 15, 1936 to Wid Kirk and Della Hyer. He was raised in Big Spring, Texas and in 1953 he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a member of the Army Artillery.

After moving to Abilene he went to work at Bandag and retired from there in 2003. Jackie loved working on anything that had a motor so during his retirement he would help people by repairing lawn mowers and cars. Jackie believed in Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

Surviving Jackie are his sons Eddie Hyer and wife Kandi of Abilene, David Hyer of Midland, and Tony Hyer and wife Michele of Tulsa, OK, one brother, Buster Hyer and wife Joy of Eula, TX, three sisters; Lucy Ellison of Abilene, Kay Pfaff of Oklahoma and Ann White and husband Jerry of Abilene, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren as well as many other extended family members and close friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers, Jimmy, Hershel, Ray, and Ronald Hyer and four sisters; Johnnie Woods, Billie Burdick, Pat Carter and Shirley Dutton.
