Toby Tyler

Toby Tyler, 70, went to be with the Lord on February 7, 2012. Services will be 1:00 pm Friday, February 10, 2012 at the First Church of the Nazarene under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street. Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the funeral home.


Toby was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Clarence and Harriett Tyler. Toby grew up in Maryland and graduated from Towson High School in Towson, Maryland. He joined the United States Air Force in August 1959 where he served for four years. After leaving the military he worked as an engineering tech on private aircraft autopilots in Mineral Wells. He then worked for IBM, in Abilene, from 1964-1977 as a field tech. Toby took the knowledge he gained from working with IBM and opened CompuTech Maintenance Services in 1977 which he later sold in 1989. He loved to work with his hands and after retirement was affectionately known as “Toby the Tool Man.”

In June of 1992 Toby married Nancy Roberson at the First Baptist Church in Abilene. Nancy and Toby were faithful members of the First Church of the Nazarene where Toby served on the church board for many years.

Politics and religion were always good topics of conversation with Toby. He loved to study Biblical prophecy, especially those regarding end times. He loved the Lord and tried to live his life in a way that would lead others to Christ.


Toby is survived by his wife Nancy; six children, Michelle Bailey and husband Bill, Paige Bohannon and husband Alan, Chris Tyler and wife Angie, Luke Roberson and wife Heather, Lance Roberson and wife Shannon, and Lindsey Roberson. In addition, he is survived by his mother, Harriett Ditchkus, sister Kitty Shaffer and husband Paul as well as eight grandchildren and many extended family members and close friends. Toby was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Tyler.
