Joseph Clay Randel, M.D.

Joe C. Randel, M.D., 79 of Abilene, passed away Tuesday December 13, 2011. A service is scheduled for 10:00 am Saturday, December 17th in the Piersall Benton Chapel, 733 Butternut St with burial to follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5-7 pm Friday evening.

Joseph Clay Randel was born January 15, 1932 in Stamford, Texas to Clay Raymond Randel and Mary Crow Randel. At the age of four his family moved to Abilene where Joe graduated from Abilene High School and went on to attend Hardin Simmons University. Joe continued his education at Southwest Medical School in Dallas and did his residency at Parkland Hospital. From 1958-1991 Joe practiced Anesthesiology at Parkland Hospital, North West Texas and St. Anthony's Hospital in Amarillo, as well as St. Ann's, Hendrick Medical Center, West Texas Hospital and Humana in Abilene. While practicing medicine he was very involved with the Taylor Jones Haskell County Medical Society, The Texas Medical Association as well as the Texas Anesthesiologist Association.

Outside of his profession Joe was very active in the Abilene Bible Church as well as Gideons International. Having grown up an only child he took great joy in spending time with wife of 53 years Margaret and their four children.

Surviving Joe is his wife Margaret, daughters; Mary Margaret Robison and husband A.W. of Abilene, and Jo Martha Randel of Orlando, FL, sons; Dr. Mark Randel and wife Karla of Nacogdoches, TX and Dr. Jonathan Randel and wife Lisa of Atlanta, GA as well as ten grandchildren; Clay Randel, Joseph Randel, Phillip Randel, Elizabeth Randel, Pearson Randel, Bethany Randel, Quinn Randel, Alexandra Robison, Sam Randel, and Maggie Randel. He was preceded in death by his parents.
