Jean Leith

November 8, 1924 — October 12, 2011

Jean Elizabeth Leith, long time resident of Denton, passed away at her residence in Abilene on October 12, 2011. She was 86 years of age.

Born on November 8, 1924 to Nels and Ruby Okeson in Omaha, Nebraska, Jean lived a rich life filled with adventure. She was a WAVE in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where she met her husband of 65 years,
Bob. Jean was an avid and fearless world traveler whose many trips to all parts of Europe, the USSR, and Australia/New Zealand usually included a lengthy stay in her beloved London at Sloane Square.

Jean especially enjoyed reading, discussing books with the literature division of the Ariel Club, cross-stitching,scrapbooking, and tracing her Swedish heritage. These hobbies, along with travel, were her passion, but her heart was her family.

Jean is survived by her husband Bob (Robert S. Leith), and seven children, Robert (Nancy), Fred (Renee), Sara (John),Dan (Jeannie), Tom, Karen (Jack), and David. She leaves a wonderful legacy to her 16 grandchildren, who will greatly miss her: Lance, Amy, Wes, Andy, Brian, Betsy, Adam, Wendy, Josh, Matt, Rachel, Clay, Mark, Nick,
Julie and Katie. Also fondly remembering their Gigi are Jean's 10 great-grandchildren: Caroline, Caitlin, Jack, Adam,James, Katie, Nash, Drew, Jaxon, and Max.

Jean and Bob were members of First Presbyterian Church, Denton, since 1963. A memorial service will take place on Monday, October 17, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. A graveside service will be held at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday in the Dallas/Ft. Worth National Cemetery.
