James Enloe Adams, Jr.

March 31, 1932 — September 22, 2011

James E. Adams, Jr., 79 of Abilene, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Windcrest Alzheimers Care Center. A service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Monday, September the 26th, at Piersall Funeral Directors Chapel, 733 Butternut St., with burial to follow at Elmwood Memorial Park. A visitation with the family will be held on Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the funeral home.

James Enloe Adams, Jr. was born March 31, 1932, to James and Lois Adams in Athens, Texas. At age 10, the family moved to Houston. After graduating from Stephen F. Austin High School, James attended the University of Houston for three years. During his 38-year career in the petroleum industry, James worked as a lab technician and consultant. During the latter years of his career, James was self-employed, traveling to numerous countries to provide training with oil field testing equipment. On August 30, 1952, James married the love of his life, Mary Louise Pence. They had three children: Gloria, David, and Robyn. They moved to Abilene from Houston in 1986 to be close to their children and grandchildren.



Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou; a son, David Adams and wife Mitzi of Abilene; two daughters, Gloria Holmes and husband Mark of Clyde, and Robyn Hill and husband David of Frederick, Md; as well as six grandchildren, Leslie Rainer, Matthew Adams, Tony Holmes, Lisa Young, Elizabeth Hill, and Rebecca Hill; and a great-granddaughter, BreAnna Young. In addition, he is survived by a brother Lynn Adams and wife Lucille. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A faithful member of the Highland Church of Christ since 1986, James served in ministry to widows and widowers. He and his wife traveled many times with good friends to Mexico for outreach and ministry.

He will be remembered as a devoted Christian, family man, friend to many, an avid gardener, and a handy man. He especially loved his grandchildren.
