Resident of Abilene for the last 13 years died peacefully on Tuesday, June 5th at the age of 93 at Windcrest Alzheimer Care Center where he had been receiving excellent, compassionate care for the last three years. Clyde was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Lawana Howard Dilbeck. Clyde is survived by his four children; Marian Piersall and husband Paul of Abilene, Janiece Schuette of Arlington, Washington, Linda Byrnes and husband Dennis of Arlington, Washington and Kenneth Dilbeck and wife Michele of Grapevine: grandchildren; Nic Olinsky of Sunnyside, Washington, and Ashley Schuette of Ellensburg, Washington, Rick Piersall and wife Pamela of Houston, Randy Piersall and wife Susan of Abilene, and Victoria Dilbeck of Grapevine; and three great grandchildren, Savannah and Greyson Piersall of Abilene, and Anlyn Piersall of Houston.
Clyde was one of the oldest members of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Jointers Local 1849 and a recipient of the 55 year pen. Clyde moved to Moses Lake, Washington in the early 50’s, from Mena, Arkansas, on the promise of work constructing Grand Coulee Dam, the missile silos and Larson Air force base. “Arkie”, as he was also known, helped construct the Moses Lake Library, OSullivan spillway and numerous homes, buildings and bridges in the area.
Clyde was an active member and elder at the Moses Lake Church of Christ and spent many Labor Days and Memorial Days leading work teams in maintenance activities.
Clyde was famous for his gardens, fruit trees and in later year his amazing dahlias and tulips. He could often be found selling his excess at the farmers market in downtown Moses Lake. Clyde loved to hunt and fish and spent many wonderful hours on the areas lakes and in the local mountains.
Clyde moved to Abilene in the early 90’s, to be closer to family during his later years. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Windcrest for their professional, compassionate and wonderful care of our father during the last few difficult years. We would also like to extend our thanks to the staff of Hendrick Hospice for their help in keeping Dad comfortable.
Visitation will be held at Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut in Abilene from 7:00-8:30 pm Friday June 8th and Services will be held at the same location at 11:00am Saturday June 9th with burial following at Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories.
