Juanita Marie Smith

Juanita Marie Smith, 88 of Abilene, passed away March 23rd, 2011 in an Abilene Nursing Center. A graveside service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, March 30th at the Nowata City Cemetery in Nowata, OK under the direction of Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St. Abilene, TX.

Juanita was born May 23, 1922 to Henry Harrison Mitchell and Mary Myrtle Mitchell in Northwest, Arkansas. She did many things during her life including working in the insurance business, owning a clothing store, and being a buyer for food service in the Abilene School District. She was a member of Crescent Heights Baptist Church in Abilene, TX.

Surviving Juanita are her grandchildren, Donna Pugh and husband Justin, Danny Smith and wife Robbie, Robert Smith and wife Kathy, all of Nowata, OK, Julie Arnold and Kathy Fyock both of Joplin, MO, daughters-in-law, Rose Marie Smith of Nowata, OK, and Jean Smith of Joplin, MO, brothers-in-law, Ted Woolman of Nowata, OK and Harold Shouse of Vinita, OK. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren as well as three nieces Nancy Imel, Gentry, AR, Frances Ann Dean, Greenwood, AR, Mary Sue Owens, Abilene, TX and one nephew Jim Crain, Oklahoma City, OK and their families.

Preceding Juanita in death were her parents, her husband Otho Hershel (Smitty) Smith, Nowata, OK in 1980, one sister, Lillian Crain of Abilene, TX, two half sisters, two sisters-in-law Lody Woolman of Nowata, OK and Colleen Shouse of Vinita, OK, a brother-in-law and his wife, Isom and Velma Smith of Broken Arrow, OK, and two step-sons, Don Smith of Nowata, OK and Bob Smith of Joplin, MO.
