Jimmy Santiago Hernandez, 59 of Abilene, passed away Monday, February 28th, 2011 at the Veterans Hospital in Big Spring. A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 am Thursday, March 3, 2011 in the Texas State Veterans Cemetery of Abilene. A visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5-7pm at Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.
Jimmy was born in Matador, Texas on May 7, 1951 to Cecilio Hernandez and Leonarda Biera Hernandez. He grew up in Abilene and joined the U.S. Marine Corp in 1969 and served valiantly for two years. Jimmy worked as a mechanic.
Surviving Jimmy are his children, Mitchel De La Cruz and Cynthia Rocha, four brothers; Cecil, George, Harvey and Mac Hernandez, six sisters; Geneva Pena, Connie Rubio, Mary Ann De La Garza, Elizabeth Sanchez, Silvia Narvaez, and Tina Gaona, as well as five grandchildren, one great grandchild and many other extended family members and close friends.
