Gary Stirman

Gary Stirman, 62 of San Antonio, passed away at his home on August 19, 2017. A service will be held Thursday August 24th at 11:00 AM in the chapel at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St with a graveside service to follow at Bear Springs Cemetery in Eastland County. Visitation with the family will be held Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Gary was born in Abilene to Fred Stirman and Gladine Jones Stirman. He and his two brothers Greg and Glen attended Abilene schools and graduated from Abilene High where they were all standout athletes. Gary went on to attend Abilene Christian where he played football for the 1973 National Championship team under coach Wally Bullington. After his time at ACU Gary went on to play for the Green Bay Packers and the Cleveland Browns in the NFL.

As a professional, Gary worked successfully in commercial real estate and sales. In addition, he served as a volunteer and mentor with many young people in schools, youth leagues and camps. Gary was loved for and will be remembered for his warm and giving heart, his curiosity and sense of humor. He had a compassionate spirit and welcoming nature. He had the ability to find the goodness in everyone. He loved fishing, hunting, and skiing with family and friends. Gary also enjoyed entertaining by writing songs to sing and play on his guitar.

Surviving Gary are his wife Julie Stirman, daughters; Katelynn Stirman and Courtney Hoyt and husband Andrew, sons; Travis, Kyle and Alexander Stirman, mother, Gladine Stirman, brothers; Greg Stirman and wife Peggy, Glen Stirman and wife Brenda and Kipruto Soimo and wife Daisy, one grandchild James Bridges Hoyt as well as many other extended family members and close friends. He was preceded in death by his father Fred Stirman, Jr.
