Bruce Max Evans was born on July 13, 1937, in Snyder, Texas; the oldest of two children to the late Annie and Bruce Evans.
While attending Abilene Christian College, Bruce married the love of his life, Jane Ann Rogers on July 13, 1957, and they made their first home in Abilene while he finished his baccalaureate and Masters degrees in music education. Bruce then continued his education and received his Doctorate in Education from Texas Tech University.
Bruce dedicated his life to ministry and higher education. He was a preacher, performing a large number of weddings and funerals over the years, also serving nine years at the Herald of Truth ministries. He served at several colleges and universities; Lubbock Christian University, University of the SW, Abilene Christian University, as well as the Foundation for Economic Education in Irvington, NY. Bruce was a much loved and respected professor and administrator wherever he went. A founding board member of Disability Resources in Abilene, he also served many years on the boards of Faith Works of Abilene, Austin Graduate School of Theology, and World Christian Broadcasting.
He served as an elder at three congregations over a span of 25 years; Taylor Street Church in Hobbs, NM, Stamford Church in Stamford, CT, and the Highland Church of Christ in Abilene, where they worshipped for 31 years until their move in retirement to Granbury. His humility, approachability, and kindness were qualities that made all people feel welcome in his presence. People became excited and interested in the things of God when he was with them.
