Sonia Francine Tindall Gandy passed away on 20 January 2025. Francine was born on the 4th of August, 1940 in Necessity, Stephens County, Texas to James Harvey (Sam) Tindall and Vessie Clementine (Tina) Knight Tindall. She was raised in Breckenridge, Texas where she met and married Ollie Wayne Gandy on April 3, 1958. She is predeceased by her parents and one brother Terry Lowell Tindall and her in laws Ollie and Fannie Gandy and Husband Ollie Wayne. She is survived by her Son Mitchell Gandy and Daughter Kelly Neff, Son-in-law Michael Neff, Granddaughter Lisa Neff, Grandson Trevor Neff, Nephew Troy Tindall and wife Cindy, her Cousin JoAn Wilks, Brother-in-law Glenn Willingham and many wonderful Nieces and Nephews.
Francine Graduated High School in Breckenridge, Texas, Graduated Cisco Junior College and attended Hardin Simmons University where she obtained a Medical Technologist certification. She worked for many Physicians and several hospitals through the years beginning with Cox Hospital downtown Abilene in the 1970’s; later, with Pathology Consultants and Abilene Diagnostic Clinic.
She thoroughly enjoyed the local amateur theater scene and through the late 1970’s, 80’s and 90’s participated in many local theater productions at Abilene Repertory Theater (ART) and Abilene Community Theater (ACT). Francine loved volunteering to run the concessions and ticket booths for the theaters, but of course was happiest when on stage. She enjoyed book trading and a good friendship with ACT Director Bob Barton who has also passed on. In her later years she volunteered her quilting abilities to quilt baby quilts for a local church charity.
Her most favorite thing in the world was to read and she read books by the dozen, weekly went to the library for more and over the 84 years of her life she probably read more than a library worth.
Her least favorite thing in the world was cooking but when she did cook it was always a good meal. She made the best Cherry, Lemon and Chocolate pies so she may not have liked cooking but she did it well.
Francine loved her dogs and was recently predeceased by her sweetheart Dusty and leaves behind her Pepper girl. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the All Kind Animal Initiative, Rescue the Animals, SPCA, the Taylor Jones Humane Society or any Animal rescue.
