Weldon “Tootie” King, 87 of Abilene, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013 at a local nursing center. A service is scheduled for 1:00 pm, Wednesday January 23, 2013 in the Southern Hills Church of Christ Chapel with Phil Ware officiating. Burial will follow at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery of Abilene. A visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5-7pm at Piersall Benton Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.
Weldon Warnick King was born October 11, 1925 in Abilene, Texas to Ezekiel and Christine Turner King. Except for a three year tour of duty with the Navy, Tootie spent most of his life in Abilene. He attended school, met and married Jean Gooch, raised their four sons, and ran his construction business all in Abilene. Tootie was a carpenter his whole life and truly loved building homes for people. He was an active member of Southern Hills Church of Christ for nearly forty years.
Surviving Mr. King are his wife Jean, sons; David King and wife Nita of Clyde, TX, Greg King and wife Jill of Fredericksburg, TX, Victor King and wife Kay of Pennsylvania and John King and wife Jeanne of Liverpool, TX, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a sister Colleen Cody of San Antonio, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Horace King.
